How Cat Litter Is Manufactured in India

Step 1: Mining

Raw sodium bentonite clay is mined from open-pit quarries. In Gujarat, India, the Bhavnagar region has rich deposits of high-grade sodium bentonite.

Step 2: Drying

The raw clay contains 25-35% moisture. It is dried in industrial kilns to reduce moisture below 12%. For roasted variants like Roasted Butter Grey, the temperature is much higher.

Step 3: Crushing

Dried clay is fed into jaw crushers and impact crushers to break it into smaller pieces. This stage determines the rough granule size.

Step 4: Screening

Crushed clay passes through vibrating screens to achieve uniform 1-4 mm granule size. Oversized pieces are re-crushed; undersized particles are removed to reduce dust.

Step 5: Fragrance Infusion (for scented variants)

For scented cat litter like Lavender, Lemon, or Apple, granules enter mixing drums where fragrance is sprayed and tumbled for even coating.

Step 6: Quality Testing

Every batch is tested for: - Clumping speed and strength - Dust level - Moisture content - Fragrance consistency (for scented variants)

Step 7: Packing

Final product is packed in 5 kg, 10 kg, 25 kg, and bulk bags using automated filling lines.
