Bentonite Red Ball Granules - Montmorillonite: >85% - Swelling Index: 24-30 ml/2g - Green Compression Strength: Excellent - Hot Strength: Good - Particle Size: 2-8 mm
Bentonite Powder (200-300 mesh) - Finer particle size for uniform distribution - Higher active surface area - Better bindability - Suitable for automated sand systems
How Bentonite Works in Sand Moulds
1. Bentonite is mixed with silica sand (typically 5-10% by weight) 2. Water is added to activate the bentonite 3. The mixture is compacted around a pattern 4. Bentonite swells and bonds sand grains together 5. The mould holds its shape during metal pouring 6. After casting, sand can be reclaimed and reused
Quality Parameters for Foundry
- Green Compression Strength: Should be >1.0 kg/cm2
- Moisture Content: 4-6% optimal in activated sand
- Loss on Ignition: <5% for clean castings
- Methylene Blue Value: Higher = better quality
