Understanding Incoterms for Mineral Export
FOB (Free On Board)
Price includes goods loaded onto vessel at Indian port (Mundra/Nhava Sheva). Buyer pays ocean freight and insurance. Ideal for buyers with existing shipping arrangements.
Available Ports: Mundra, Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Kandla, Pipavav
CFR (Cost and Freight)
Price includes goods plus ocean freight to destination port. Buyer arranges insurance. Good for buyers who want predictable landed cost without managing shipping.
Available Ports: Dubai (Jebel Ali), Mombasa, Hamburg, Rotterdam, New York, and other major ports
CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight)
Full price including goods, ocean freight, and marine insurance to destination port. Simplest for first-time importers who want an all-inclusive price with minimal logistics coordination.
Available Ports: Available to all major international ports
How Export Pricing Works โ From Factory to Destination Port
Export pricing for industrial minerals involves multiple cost components beyond the product itself. Understanding these components helps you evaluate quotations accurately and negotiate effectively.
Ex-Factory Price
The base cost of the product at our Bhavnagar facility โ includes raw material, processing, QC testing, and standard packing (25 kg / 50 kg / jumbo bags). This is the starting point for all export quotations.
Inland Transport
Truck freight from our Thordi factory to the loading port (Mundra: 180 km, ~3-4 hrs; Kandla: 240 km, ~4-5 hrs; Pipavav: 130 km, ~2-3 hrs). Cost depends on container type and fuel rates at time of booking.
Port Handling & Documentation
Container stuffing supervision, customs clearance, port charges, documentation fees (Certificate of Origin, fumigation certificate, bill of lading), and Chamber of Commerce attestation where required.
Ocean Freight
The largest variable cost. Depends on destination port, container size (20 ft vs 40 ft), shipping line, and season. India-UAE routes are shortest (3-5 days, lowest cost). Africa routes (12-25 days) and Europe/USA (18-28 days) cost more.
Marine Insurance
Covers loss or damage during ocean transit. Typically 0.3-0.5% of cargo value. Required for CIF quotations; optional but recommended for CFR.
Destination Charges
Import duties, port handling, customs clearance, and inland transport at the destination country. These vary significantly by country โ Kenya applies ~10% duty + 16% VAT; UAE charges 5% VAT + clearing fees.
Container Loading Guide โ Maximize Your Freight Efficiency
20 ft Container (Standard): Approximately 20-28 metric tons depending on product density. Fits 20-22 pallets (1,000 kg each). Ideal for trial orders and single-product shipments. Standard for cat litter and roasted clay exports.
40 ft Container (High Cube): Approximately 25-28 metric tons (volume-limited before weight-limited for most minerals). Fits 22-24 pallets. More cost-effective per-tonne freight rate for established buyers with consistent monthly volumes.
LCL (Less than Container Load): For shipments below 5-15 MT. Product shares container space with other cargo. Higher per-tonne freight cost but practical for trial orders and small-volume buyers. Minimum 2-5 MT depending on product.
Mixed-Container Loading: Multiple products or variants in one container โ for example, 5 MT Lavender + 5 MT Lemon + 5 MT Apple + 5 MT Unscented cat litter in a 20 ft container. Reduces per-SKU freight cost and simplifies documentation. Standard practice for distributors testing multiple variants.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an accurate FOB or CIF price for my order?
Share your product, grade, estimated monthly volume, preferred packing format, destination port, and preferred Incoterm (FOB/CFR/CIF). We respond with a detailed proforma invoice within 24 hours. For first-time buyers, we recommend starting with a trial LCL shipment to validate product quality and logistics before committing to full container programs.
What factors affect the ocean freight cost?
Ocean freight depends on: destination port distance (UAE is cheapest at 3-5 days; USA/Europe is 18-28 days), container size (40 ft is more cost-effective per tonne than 20 ft), shipping line and season (rates increase during peak shipping season August-October), fuel surcharges (BAF), and port congestion at destination. We work with multiple shipping lines to find competitive rates for each shipment.
Do you offer volume discounts for large export orders?
Yes. Buyers with monthly container programs (1+ containers per month) receive preferential pricing with quarterly rate validity. Annual supply agreements with scheduled dispatch dates provide the best per-tonne pricing. Contact us with your projected annual volume for a customized pricing proposal.
What is the payment process for export orders?
Standard payment terms: 50% advance against proforma invoice, 50% against shipping documents (scanned BL + invoice + packing list). For established buyers with regular monthly programs, we can discuss letter of credit (LC) or open account terms. First-time buyers typically start with advance payment or LC at sight.
Can I visit your factory before placing an export order?
Yes, factory visits are encouraged. You can inspect our processing lines, review QC procedures, check stockpiles, and discuss your technical requirements directly with the production team. Our Thordi facility is 25 km from Bhavnagar city and accessible via NH-8A. We can arrange airport pickup from Bhavnagar or Ahmedabad.
